Jason’s Pre-Season Diary: Part Two

Desert Springs departure

The whole Somerset squad are currently in Spain at a pre-season training camp.

In order to keep supporters up to date with what they’ve been up to, we asked Assistant & Bowling Coach Jason Kerr to send us his Training Camp Diary!

Here is part two:

Unfortunately my boasting about the weather in my previous piece has really come back to bite us!

The last few days has seen significant rainfall in the desert!  This has prevented us from taking part in any skills based activities on the grass.  This is a blow but the weather looks set fair for the next couple of days, so with a few amendments to the schedule we will be able to make up that lost time.

Rain can often affect the cricketing calendar and the guys have had to find constructive ways to entertain themselves over the last few days.  Thankfully the gym saved many of them from boredom overload whilst several of the other guys used the time to study.

The break has also given the coaching staff some time to sit down with the players individually.  This has allowed us to look at and discuss their potential roles for the upcoming summer.

I spoke with newly appointed Club Captain Tom Abell about the trip so far and he said: ‘The trip has been an invaluable 10 days of intensive training in the wonderful settings of Desert Springs.  At this stage I’m very happy with where the guys are skills-wise, and everyone looks to be in a good place ahead of the pre-season friendlies which start on Sunday.”
