The Somerset Cricket Board (SCB) wish to appoint a Growth & Participation Officer to provide accessible and appropriate formats of cricket to encourage new players to try the game and bring lapsed players back to it.

Together with the ECB, Somerset Cricket Board want to get a bat and a ball into more hands, introduce more people to the power of cricket and show a new generation how to get involved.

The post holder will manage and develop the following areas:

The post holder will also play a supportive role in the new All Stars Cricket programme.

A major part of the ECB’s new strategy (www.cricketunleashed.com) is More Play. The Growth & Participation Development Officer will be primarily focussing on the Communities sector of More Play where success will be measured by the number of people playing the game.

As a host venue for the ICC Women’s World Cup and a Kia Super League team (Western Storm) SCB have an opportunity to utilise elite women’s cricket to inspire engagement with the sport. The successful candidate will be tasked with maximising community involvement in both competitions to create a lasting legacy in the South West.

In Somerset we are very proud of our disability cricket provision and we have also had significant recent successes in increasing women’s participation and launching new indoor leagues. The successful applicant will be responsible for continuing to grow participation in these areas using the most appropriate combination of existing methods and new ideas/programmes.

The three areas where SCB believe there is scope for significant growth in participation are girls cricket, community leagues/festivals and casual cricket. Whilst SCB have existing programmes in place they are also seeking fresh ideas and innovation in order to have the biggest impact possible in markets that have huge potential.

SCB are seeking an individual who will bring enthusiasm, fresh ideas and a track record of increasing participation to our high performing team of staff.

The successful candidate will become a major part of a friendly, professional and supportive team that have a ‘can do’ attitude.

Salary: £20k – £23k (based on experience) plus expenses

Contract: 24 month contract with the intention of extending (dependent on future funding)

Hours: Flexible, 37 hours per week
