Following our stunning ten wicket win at Yorkshire, Somerset are very much in the hunt for that much coveted Specsavers County Championship title!
Make sure you don’t miss out on what could be history in the making at the Cooper Associates County Ground next week.
The mathematics of the situation is quite complicated so here is a brief outline of the various permutations:
- If Middlesex beat Yorkshire, they are Champions.
- If Yorkshire beat Middlesex, Somerset need to take one more bonus point from the Nottinghamshire game than the side from Headingley claim at Lord’s. If Somerset and Yorkshire finish level on points Somerset would finish ahead due to having lost fewer matches.
- If it’s a draw at Lord’s, it gets complicated! Firstly, Somerset need to win to have any realistic chance of closing the 10-point gap with Middlesex. However, if Somerset win and Middlesex draw, Somerset could afford to secure one fewer bonus point than Middlesex and still win the title. (Somerset would get 16 points for the win and Middlesex would get five for the draw which would be an 11-point advantage and if the teams finish level in that situation, Somerset would have six wins to the Middlesex five.)
A win against Nottinghamshire could see Somerset crowned champions for the first time in our history so make sure that you are here to witness it!
Tickets for the match are still on sale at a cost of just £13 for adults in advance and £3 for Under 19′s and can be purchased by clicking here
