Val Baker has loved every minute of the three months that she has been working for Somerset CCC at the Cooper Associates County Ground as an administrator in the Hospitality and Sales Team.
“I am enjoying working here very much and my first three months seem to have gone very quickly. I started just as the cricket season began, since when it has been really busy.”
“I provide support to Brian Lee and Sam McIntyre to enable them to do their jobs more effectively and try to make things seamless within the department.”
What Val does now is not totally different to what she has done in the past as she explained. “Before I had children I worked for the Ramblers’ Association helping to organize events for them,” she said. “I have enjoyed being involved with national sporting organizations so the job here appealed to me and it’s not dissimilar to what I was doing before.”
“Although Somerset County Cricket Club is a big organization locally, what came across strongly to me when I came for my interview was that the people I was working with were a friendly team and that’s very much how I have found it.
“The club is so friendly and I am really enjoying it. Everybody I work with and talk to are very supportive and there is a really lovely atmosphere.”
Part of Val’s job is meeting up with Members on a face to face basis which she enjoys. “On match days and for conference bookings I get involved with meeting and greeting people,” she said. “It’s a part of the job that I really enjoy because it’s good to meet people face to face who I have previously dealt with on the telephone. I am really enjoying it.
“On match days there is a quite a lot that happens all at once and it’s great to see how it all works with everybody helping each other out. There is a buzz about the place which is good fun to feel a part of.”
She added: “It’s always better when we win because we are all part of the team.”
