Somerset Second XI were in T20 action this evening at Exeter CC, winning a close game by 8 runs.
Batting first, Somerset lost wickets at regular intervals during the first 10 overs with only Alex Barrow (39) getting in against some disciplined Exeter bowling. This included 4 overs from Ex-Somerset player Alfonso Thomas (0-27), Ben Green (1/34) and three overs from SCCC Strength and Conditioning Intern Zak Bess (1/20).
Despite being 103/6 in the 14th over, Somerset rallied at the death with 35 not out from 17-year-old Fin Trenouth. He was joined by Louie Shaw (22 not out) in guiding the visitors to 161/7 courtesy of a 58 run 8th wicket partnership.
When Exeter replied, Liam Redrup took 3 wickets as the run-chase never quite got going. It took a 20-ball 31 from Ollie Sale to get the hosts close to the target. Needing 17 from the final over, Somerset held their nerve to complete the victory. Redrup was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 30 from his 4 overs.
The Somerset side was: Adam Hose, Sam Underdown, Tim Rouse, Alex Barrow (wk), Eddie Bryrom, Tom Banton, Fin Trenouth,, Louie Shaw, Liam Redrup, Calvin Harrison and Joe Gore
The Devon side included Alfonso Thomas, Ollie Sale and Ben Green
