Somerset Seconds were in 50 over Second XI today (Tuesday) when they played MCC Young Cricketers at High Wycombe.
After being invited to bat first, openers Adam Hose and Tim Rouse got Somerset off to a flyer, putting on 143 for the first wicket in just under 24 overs. Rouse was the first to go, caught and bowled for a well-made 65 from 81 balls. Hose continued punishing the bowling on a day that reached 29 degrees at times, striking 11 fours and 2 sixes as he passed a century before falling for 103 from 97 balls.
There were contributions further down the order as the visitors looked for quick runs. Tom Abell, returning from a back injury, played nicely and scored 54 from 39 balls as he looks to prove his fitness for the 1st XI. Further 20′s from Green, Bess, Leask and van Meekeren ensured Somerset racked up a large total, which amounted to 362/7 from their 50 overs.
The MCC Young Cricketers got off to a poor start in reply amid some disciplined Somerset bowling. Despite an entertaining 80 from Solia, wickets were lost at regular intervals and the MCC Young Cricketers were bowled out for 197, giving Somerset a massive 165 run victory. All of the Somerset bowler’s contributed well but it was Max Waller who led the way with 4 for 40 from 8 overs.
The Somerset squad for the game was:
Tom Banton (wkt)
Max Waller (c)
Paul van Meekeren
