George, Ben and Dom selected by England Under 19′s

George Bartlett, Ben Green and Dom Bess have all been called up to the England Under 19 squads for this summer’s matches against Sri Lanka.

England will take on Sri Lanka in two four-day matches and the three match Royal London One-Day Series.

George, one of only two players in the 14-man squads who featured in the ICC Under-19 World Cup earlier this year, is included in both the four-day and one-day squads whilst Ben and Dom have been selected for the one-day series.

Following the announcement of the squads Somerset Director of Cricket Matt Maynard said: “I’m delighted that the three players have been selected to represent their country.  George Bartlett and Ben Green have a good deal of experience of International cricket at this level and have proved in the past that they are more than worthy of playing at that standard.

“It’s been a big couple of weeks for Dom Bess.  He made his First Class debut for the County against Pakistan last week and now he gets an England call up.  He did really well against Pakistan and obviously the selectors liked what they have seen this year.

“All three players have done well for the Second XI this year and they have all impressed me with their attitude and their desire to improve.  I have no doubt that they will do well against Sri Lanka.”

David Graveney OBE, the chairman of selectors of the England Development Programme, said: “We have agreed with Somerset that Ben Green, who is recovering after a foot operation, should not be considered for the four-day matches, and would be better building up his fitness in some second team games to be ready for our 50-over matches.”

The Under-19s, under the supervision of former Somerset Head Coach and current Head of the EDP Andy Hurry, will meet up for a two-day match against Unicorns in Loughborough on July 21st before facing Sri Lanka in the first of the two four-day games at Fenner’s, the University Cricket Ground in Cambridge.

Somerset Academy player Tom Lammonby has also received recognition after being selected in the EDP invitational XI about which Matt said: “Tom has made a big impression since joining the Academy.  He has a great character and has a real determination to succeed.  This is highlighted by the fact that he made his Second XI debut as a 15 year old and didn’t look out of place.  I am sure that this will be a really good experience for him.”

Dom Bess will also feature in this match.
