Somerset Women play their first match since winning promotion back to Division One when they host Kent at Taunton Vale on Sunday, followed by an away trip to face Staffordshire the following day.
Looking forward to first game of the season this weekend Somerset vice captain Sophie Luff, who last season hit three centuries said: “ I’m excited to get going in Division One but we know it’s going to be a challenge, especially with Kent first up.
“We know we’re going to have to put some good performances together in order to compete in the top division and we’re more than capable of causing a few upsets. I guess we go in as underdogs but if we play the sort of cricket we did last year, we shouldn’t go too far wrong.”
How does the vice captain think Somerset will fare this summer? “I’m predicting a big season for Cassie Coombes,” she said. “She will probably open the bowling with Anya Shrubsole and has performed well for us for a couple of years now. She will be an unknown quantity to some Division One teams and may well prove that she’s got plenty of potential for the next level.”
Sophie added: “We play Staffordshire on the Monday, who we back ourselves to beat. If we can get at least one win on the board this weekend, we can look to push on throughout the season, two wins would be a dream start.”
