Somerset Second XI lost their 50 over game against Devon at Sidmouth by five wickets.
After being put into bat first Somerset’s openers Adam Hose and Eddie Byrom added 60 for the first wicket before Hose was out for 25.
Byrom stayed to see the total onto 90 before he too was out for 25, after which Somerset lost three quick wickets.
Academy pair Louie Shaw and Fin Trenouth then added 35 together for the seventh wicket before Shaw was out for 24.
Trenouth remained almost until the end before he went for 35 and Somerset were all out for 187 off 49.5 overs.
In reply Devon reached 188 for five, the wickets being shared between the bowlers.
Afterwards Steve Snell the Second XI Coach and Academy Director said: “We fielded a pretty young side and the game was played in very difficult conditions with a very strong wind blowing throughout.
“Even though there were some good contributions from some of the younger lads we didn’t really score enough runs.
“We also had a very young bowling attack who were a little bit naïve and also found the conditions hard to bowl in.”
Steve added: “However overall it was a good work out especially for the younger players. “
