Second XI: Somerset v Worcestershire – Day Three

Somerset ‘s Second XI match against Worcestershire at Taunton Vale ended in a draw this afternoon.

At the start of the day the visitors, who resumed their first innings on 20 without loss took their score onto 288 for six off 77.1 overs when they declared.

The pick of the Somerset attack were opening bowler Liam Redrup who claimed three for 72 from his 15 overs and Max Waller with two for 37 from 8.1.

Batting for a second time Somerset lost Waller with the score on 21 when Michael Leask joined opener George Bartlett and together the second wicket pair added 50 before the Scotsman was out for a run a ball 34.

Craig Overton then raced to 49 off just 25 balls which included five 4s and four 6s before he was out having added 65 with Bartlett for the third wicket.

Eddie Byrom then hit 24 off 31 balls with four 4s and a 6 before he was out and by the time the umpires removed the stumps Somerset had moved onto 187 for five off 34 overs, Bartlett remaining unbeaten on 61 off 89 balls.

Day Three:

The third and final day of Somerset Second’s match against Worcestershire is due to start at Taunton Vale this morning at 11am

Currently in Taunton the sun is shining so hopefully play will get underway on time.

When play resumes Worcestershire will start the day on 20 without loss in reply to Somerset’s first innings of 290 for two declared.

Day Two:

After the first day was abandoned without a ball being bowled, Somerset Second XI were hoping to be able to start their match against Worcestershire at Taunton Vale on time today.

However, there was no play on day two until after lunch due to a wet outfield.

When the players were finally able to venture out in to the middle Somerset Captain Johann Myburgh won the toss and elected to bat.

Somerset openers Adam Hose and Eddie Byrom started strongly put on 136 for the first wicket before Byrom was caught by Rhodes from the bowling of Ben Twohig for 63.  Myburgh was the next man in and picked up where Byrom had finished and reached a brisk 24 not out from 27 balls at the tea interval.  Somerset reached the break on 169 for one with Hose unbeaten on 67.

After the tea interval Hose went to his century and had moved onto 124 when he was out.

George Bartlett joined Myburgh and the third wicket pair took Somerset onto 290 when the captain declared by which time he had moved onto 73 not out while Bartlett was seven not out.

in the overs that remained Worcestershire had moved onto 20 without loss.
