Staff Profile: Ben Warren, Digital Executive

It is just over a year since Ben Warren started working for Somerset County Cricket Club and he has loved every minute of the time that he has been there.

The 24 year old, who hails from Bridgwater said: “Its amazing that I have been here a year. I started before the beginning of last season and now after a full winter it’s great to have completed a full cycle.”

Ben, who plays cricket when he can for Middlezoy CC in the Somerset League said: “I am primarily responsible for the digital content that comes from the Club, including the items that appear on the website or social media. I work as part of a team and I guess that day to day the social media is the most prominent part of the job that I do.

“However this has expanded since I first arrived and I am now starting to get involved with other areas of the Club and the business as a whole, but my input is mainly on the digital side of things.”

Ben talked about how he felt when he first arrived at the Cooper Associates County Ground.

“I was made so welcome when I first arrived at the club. I know it sounds a bit of a cliché but the ‘We are Somerset’ message we stand for sums up the reception that I was given by everyone, both the commercial team and also from the players.”

One of the biggest developments that has happened since Ben arrived on the scene has been the opening of the new Somerset Pavilion.

“It’s amazing to think that when I first arrived it was a building site so to see it go from that to what it is now makes you realize how it has been put together. The Cooper Associates County Ground is such a wonderful place to be coming to work everyday.”

Looking ahead to the new season Ben said: “The Somerset Pavilion is where I am going to be based on match days. It has been open now for a few months and the Stragglers Coffee House has gone down very well, but it will be fantastic to see members and supporters, plus the press all making use of it.”

Ben talked about a couple of things that have stuck in his mind during the time he has been at Somerset.

“On match days my main role is updating our social media and I think that the buzz you get from when the team wins or something special happens is difficult to describe. To be the first one who conveys the news that Somerset have won a match is really enjoyable. Also to manage our pages when Chris Gayle was here – to see that and the reaction on social media was something I will never forget.”

“It has been quite incredible to see the social media side of things grow over the past 12 months, and it is really eye-opening to see how many fans Somerset really does have. We are the second most supported County on the circuit digitally and it is clear we have a very passionate and loyal set of supporters!”

Ben went on: “We want to provide the best possible service that we can. The players are great on social media and helping us out with interviews. This year we want to get an added level of professionalism and keep everybody as up to date as we possibly can.

“We want to get as many people as we can involved and help them to feel a part of the club, that’s our target.”

Ben added: “There are a number of things in the pipeline so these are exciting times ahead of us and I just cant wait for the new season to get underway.”
