The match has been abandoned at Taunton Vale. Somerset are next in action on Thursday away at Glamorgan
Chris Rogers was looking forward to the game and added beforehand: “Somerset have been brilliant and have looked after me really well. They have been really helpful and helped me to settle in well. I have also spent some time with the boys so I’m enjoying being here in Taunton.”
Last week Somerset enjoyed the better of a three day drawn game against Gloucestershire which included 95 for Marcus Trescothick, half centuries for Jim Allenby, James Hildreth and Tom Abell and a four wicket haul for Craig Overton.
Ahead of the two-dayer Matt Maynard the Somerset Director of Cricket said: “We will be hoping for some more good cricket like we played against Gloucestershire. As the game went on the bowlers got consistently better especially Craig Overton and Tim Groenewald.
“Josh Davey also put his name in the ring and Peter Trego looks in good nick as did Jim Allenby so we are pleased on that score. “The game against Worcestershire will also give us a chance to see Roelof van der Merwe in action for the first time, and it will be interesting to see how he goes in this game, with both bat and ball.
“This game also gives us an opportunity to keep an eye on Alex Barrow who keeps pushing Ryan Davies, which is an exciting thing.” Matt went on: “We will also have new skipper Chris Rogers playing for the first time which is a big thing for the Club. He has settled in well and is very much looking forward to the game. It will be great to have his contributions so early in the season.”
The 13-man squad is: Marcus Trescothick, Tom Abell, Chris Rogers (c), James Hildreth, Roelof van der Merwe, Ryan Davies, Peter Trego, Alex Barrow (wk), Josh Davey, Tim Groenewald, Jamie Overton, Tom Barber and Michael Leask.
Following this match Somerset are next in action when they travel to Cardiff for a three day game against Glamorgan beginning on Thursday at 11am.
