Ryan Davies has just returned to the Cooper Associates County Ground after representing England Under 19s at the World Cup in Bangladesh.
Ryan, who joined the county from Kent at the end of the 2015 season, has just moved into the Club flats and is now back in full training alongside the rest of his new team mates.
Reflecting on playing at the World Cup he said: “It was a really good experience to be out there with the England Under 19′s playing against the best nations in the world and it was a tough trip.
“We played really well in our three games leading up to the defeat to Sri Lanka and I think we were a bit unlucky. Maybe a few decisions not going our way could have changed things- but that’s cricket.”
Regarding his own game Ryan said: “I kept really well out there and I’m very happy with that side of my game, but I’m a bit frustrated with my batting and didn’t get as much opportunity as I would have liked in the main competition. I batted a bit against Pakistan and was happy with how it went but overall I was a bit frustrated.”
Ryan talked about how it felt now that he had moved into the flats and was training with the rest of the squad. “It has been really nice coming down here and settling in at the Club. Daz (Darren Veness, Somerset CCC Head of Strength & Conditioning) has been good with me and has given me the opportunity to find my feet. Once I have done that I’m sure he will give me a hard time!”
It wont be too long before the young ‘keeper is off with the rest of the Somerset squad for a pre-season training camp at Desert Springs so how does he feel about that? “I’ve never been on a pre-season tour so I’m not sure quite what to expect,” he said. “It will be a great chance for me to get to know the lads a lot better, which will be brilliant and the cricket side will take care of itself. When we get back from Spain we are pretty much into the first pre-season game which I am looking forward to. It will be great to get outside here on the grass.”
Looking further ahead Ryan said: “I’m really excited about the new season and I’m looking forward to starting the warm up games. I hope I can stamp my mark on my position for the season and then we will go from there.”
