The entire Somerset squad are currently taking part in a pre-season training camp at Desert Springs in Spain.
In order to keep supporters up to date with what is going on behind the scenes, we asked Max Waller to write a Tour Blog for us. Here is his first installment:
“So, I have been asked to write a tour diary/update for the website. I will try and keep it short and informative but English wasn’t a strength of mine at school, so apologies in advance!
Having spoken to most of the guys who have been around Taunton this winter, they are itching to get outside and see the sun for the first time in 6 months. Fingers crossed Spain can provide that for all of the nocturnal creatures in the squad. So far it’s been sunny but a bit fresh due to a cold wind but at least we are outdoors!
One of the things that I was really looking forward to coming back to Somerset for after 5 months in beautiful Cape Town was seeing the boys! Although I’m not sure much longer than a week spent in an apartment with Tregs is manageable!
As this is our second trip to Desert Springs with Somerset CCC, most of the guys knew what to expect regarding the cricket facilities, accommodation, food and obviously the golf course. Especially Darren Veness (Head of Strength & Conditioning) who saw every single part of the desert last year on his one and only round of golf. I’m not sure he’ll be making another appearance, especially if the green-keeper has anything to do with it!
The trip is great chance to get outside on grass before our pre-season games that start soon after our return to Taunton. We will be doing plenty of batting/bowling/fielding as well as going through team goals and plans.”
Part two of Max Waller’s Tour Blog will be appearing here shortly.
