Somerset CCC supporting Sport Relief

Somerset County Cricket Club will be helping to support Sport Relief next month.

On Friday 18th March BBC Somerset Breakfast Show presenter Claire Carter will attempt to cover the distance of the Somerset county border with the help of friends and listeners.

Sport enthusiast Claire will run part of the 286 miles on a treadmill, with show Producer, Dean who will be cycling on an exercise bike alongside her.

It has today been announced that ‘Claire Carter’s On the Edge for Sport Relief’ will take place at the Stragglers Coffee House at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, the home of Somerset County Cricket Club.

Listeners are being urged to join them at the cricket ground to walk, run and cycle part of the way to help the pair reach the distance and raise some all-important cash for Sport Relief.

Claire, who is known for immersing herself in raising money for Comic Relief sat in a bath of chip shop batter last year to encourage people in the West to do their bit.

This year’s fundraising effort will start live during Claire’s Breakfast Show and go on through the day with live updates. People can listen to her progress on BBC Somerset on 95.5FM, 1566AM, digital radio or online at

Nick Bull, Editor, BBC Somerset said: “It’s fantastic to be holding this event raising money for Sport Relief at the home of Somerset County Cricket Club. Claire is one of the sportiest people I know, but this is a massive challenge and she’s going to need all the help she can get from our listeners and cricket fans at the Cooper Associates County Ground!”

Somerset County Cricket Club CEO Guy Lavender added: “We are absolutely delighted to be supporting Sport Relief once again this year. As a professional sports club, the idea behind Sport Relief is one that we find particularly appealing.  Getting active, having fun and raising money to help change people’s lives is something that we all think is extremely worthwhile.”

Make sure that you come along and show your support for this great charity on March 18th!
