Somerset to return to Desert Springs

Somerset v Gloucestershire 300315

The 2016 campaign is creeping ever nearer and the final planning for Somerset’s pre-season trip to Desert Springs in south east Spain is at an advance stage.

Looking ahead to the trip Matt Maynard, the Director of Cricket said: “Desert Springs gets very little rain and is a good place to go for pre-season. They’ve got some great grass nets there plus an area for fielding.  For what we want to achieve in our pre-season, Desert Springs is just ideal.”

Matt went on: “When we went there last season I found it very helpful indeed to get to know everybody and what made them tick. We had some great one to ones over there, so we will be following a very similar pattern this time round.

“This year Jason Kerr will be taking the bowlers out three days earlier so that they have a bit longer for acclimatization and they will go out on March 7th.  The rest of us will head over on March 10th and return on March 17th.  Pretty soon after we return we’ve got our first pre-season games – a three dayer against Gloucestershire followed by a T20 which starts on March 21st.

“All of the boys will be with us out in Desert Springs apart from Chris Rogers who will be with us in time for March 21st.”

Matt added: “We have got plenty of matches in our pre-season this year so there are lots of opportunities for the boys to push their case for April 10th .
