Ben Green spent his final Sunday Academy session at the County Ground this weekend before heading off with the England squad to the Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh.
The 17 year old all rounder came through the Devon age groups before joining the Somerset Academy at the County Ground.
Ben enjoyed a successful trip to Sri Lanka with England Under 19’s before Christmas about which he said: “I really enjoyed it and it’s always better when the team plays well, so it was great. George (Bartlett) and Ryan (Davies) also both did well so all the Somerset boys did a good job. It’s always nice to get both runs and wickets for the team and I was happy with the way that I played on the trip.
“We are off on Wednesday evening. Firstly to Dubai for five days, where we play a warm up game against South Africa, before heading to Chittagong to play two more warm up matches against Bangladesh and Namibia. Then we are into the World Cup itself. This is fantastic and a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to make sure that I make the most of it and I am very happy indeed to be going.”
Looking ahead to the summer Ben said: “I need to string together some good performances and then you never know what might happen.”
Green’s Academy team-mate George Bartlett was also at the County Ground on Sunday and is looking forward to the Under 19 World Cup. Regarding which the 17 year old said: “Its pretty close now and I’m feeling good about it and really excited. I have had a big year and if I look back I can see that I have progressed and developed both as a cricketer and a person, so everything is going in the right direction.”
He added: “What I have experienced over the last 12 months makes me want more and playing at this standard makes you realize what you could have if you continue to get better.”
