Pre-season friendlies announced

Somerset County Cricket Club have announced a number of pre-season friendlies.
Before the season officially gets underway we will be taking on Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Glamorgan and Lancashire.
On Monday March 21st we will begin a three-day match against local rivals Gloucestershire at Taunton Vale.
On Thursday March 24th we will again be at Taunton Vale as we play two T20 matches against Gloucestershire.
On Monday March 28th we will take on Worcestershire at the County Ground, Taunton in a two-day match.
On Thursday March 31st we will travel to the SSE SWALEC to begin a three-day match against Glamorgan.
On Monday April 4th we begin a three-day match against Lancashire at Taunton Vale.

After confirming the friendlies Director of Cricket Matt Maynard said: “It is important that we hit the ground running in 2016.  With this in mind we have scheduled a number of friendlies over various formats of the game to ensure that all the players are both mentally and physically prepared for the start of another long season.

“Given the scale of the work that has been carried out at the County Ground during the winter, the majority of these fixtures will take place at Taunton Vale Sports Club to allow the playing surface to fully recover.  In order to get match practice on different surfaces we felt that it was also necessary to play one of these fixtures outside of Somerset and that is why we will be playing away at Glamorgan”

“It is important that the standard of opposition is high in pre-season so that the players are able to reach the necessary levels of intensity when the actual season begins.  What better way to motivate the players than by starting with local derbies against Gloucestershire and finishing with a match against Lancashire who will certainly have something to prove in 2016.”
