Matt discusses 2016 fixtures

Somerset v Gloucestershire 300315

Now that the 2016 fixtures have been announced we caught up with Director of Cricket Matt Maynard to get his thoughts.

“The fixtures don’t look too bad to me at a first glance,” he said.  “The ECB have obviously looked at concerns of playing white ball cricket one day and then starting a four-day match the next.  The different formats require different skills, so they have actually put some NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup games together, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out.  I think there may well be some tough periods where we have a lot of travelling but it looks a bit better than last year and therefore is hopefully more spectator friendly for our terrific fans.

“We have had the work done on the ground so we asked for the first couple of matches to be away from Taunton and we have got that so our first home game isn’t until May 1st when we entertain Lancashire.  This should give the ground plenty of chance to be 100% ready for that fixture.”
