Somerset Academy youngsters George Bartlett and Ben Green are heading off to Sri Lanka with the rest of the England Under 19 squad on Thursday afternoon where they will be playing in a triangular tournament.
The Academy duo will also be joining up with England Under 19 wicket-keeper Ryan Davies, who earlier this autumn signed for Somerset from Kent.
George said: “I am pretty excited looking and am forward to it. I know it will be a long journey but once we get there it will be a great experience to play against Sri Lanka and India in the series.
“I have been to Sri Lanka before so I know a little bit about what sort of conditions to expect, but this is really exciting. I think it will be a good contest between bat and ball on decent pitches that will take a bit of spin as well.”
Ben Green said: “I am very, very excited but also a little bit nervous as well. My rehab is going well and I am feeling strong and fit so hopefully I can get out there and get some games in during the tour.
“The first half week we will spend getting acclimatized, then we have a warm up game, a couple more training days and then we play four one day games, two each against India and Sri Lanka and then hopefully we will be in the final.”
During the tour England Under 19s will be based in Colombo and are out in Sri Lanka for three weeks returning home on December 23rd.
The Somerset youngsters will all be hoping for a successful trip in Sri Lanka to help their selection for the Under 19 World Cup that is taking place between January 14th and February 14th 2016.
