Somerset all-rounder Jim Allenby has had a pretty busy time since the end of the summer.
Recently the 33 year old spoke to the official Somerset CCC website about what he has been up to back in his native Australia.
“It has been a quite different off season so far for me. I had an operation on my left ankle for a bone spur removal, and they found a stress fracture in there as well so fixed that up. One of the pitfalls of playing all forms of the game without missing any cricket for a number of years now I guess.”
He went on: “I am recovering really well though and will be able to resume playing cricket after Christmas. I have been in contact with the medical team back in Somerset which has made it nice and easy to do the right things. It has been great though to have a break from playing having played non-stop for 15 years now.
“I have really enjoyed coaching various squads and been able to watch them play.”
Jim has also had a very special occasion to celebrate since he returned to Western Australia as he explained.
“My wife gave birth to our first child, a boy called Frederik, and it has been an amazing time for us all. He even waited until I was nearly off crutches to arrive!”
Jim added: “There are plenty of Somerset lads out in Perth this year and I am looking forward to joining up with their training in the New Year, and maybe the odd beach session too!”
